A: Many people wonder if you can reuse the vacuum bags that you use with the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealers. The answer is a definite yes. There are a few things to keep in mind when you do this to maximize the reuse.

Every time you reuse a FoodSaver bag you lose about an inch of the bag because of the way the FoodSavers are set up. This means that if you are planning on reusing a bag many times it is important to leave enough space for you to reseal it many times while still leaving enough space for the items inside.

Cleaning the FoodSaver Bags

You can wash the vacuum bags like you would any type of container, mainly depending on what you stored in them. If you are reusing a bag that had meat or another perishable food it is best to rinse it under hot water and use soap. If it was something non-perishable then you can just wipe the FoodSaver bag with a damp, warm washcloth and that should be enough.

You can also wash the FoodSaver bag in the dishwasher if you want to make sure it is really clean. Just turn the bag inside out and put it on the top rack of the dishwasher. This should completely sterilize the bag and get it ready for the next use.
